If I have "Latch Prime On Stop" enabled isn't it technically hot once I touch a control without playing? So why would I use Capture over Preview other than storing multiple snapshots in the console?

And like almost all functions in PT, there are multiple ways to accomplish the same task. One scenario that I can think of off the top of my head, is if you wrote auto to the Choruses different on each Chorus of a song, for example, and you decide you want to apply the automation from Chorus 1 to the first half of Chorus 2 assuming static automation , you could go to Ch 1 and Capture all setting whether writing or not, on all channels or selected channels, depending upon the modifier s used and then go to Ch 2 and punch the automation on all tracks, or selected, etc.
If you were using Preview mode in the above scenario, you would have to touch all the controls that you wanted to punch into Ch 2. or else when you went to Ch 2 the controls that were not isolated would follow the existing automation in Ch 2. You could also adjust the scenario and say you go into Preview mode in Ch 1, make a few changes, then you decide that the changes would be better applied to Ch 2.
You could then use the Capture all settings and punch them into Ch 2, exit Preview mode and Ch 1 will revert back to the original automation but Ch 2 will have the Previewed and Captured automation. I hope that helped? Professor in Sound Technology.
